Andrew Hemsley BSc (Hons) ICIOB ABEng

Andrew Hemsley is the principal of CBH Surveying Consultancy and is a Building Surveyor, having been elected an Incorporated member of the Chartered Institute of Building in 2003. In 2006 he successfully completed a degree in Building Surveying to compliment his existing qualifications and experience. He was also elected an Associate member of the Association of Building Engineers in 2004. Andrew is also an Access Consultant and CDM Co-ordinator having completed approved courses in 2005 and 2009 respectively.

His building surveying experience is wide and varied having worked for Local Authorities, NHS Trusts and in the private sector for construction companies and retailers. From the beginning of his career he has undertaken condition surveys and building defects analysis and has been involved in many schemes of building refurbishment and alteration to commercial, industrial and residential building stock.

In 1989 he began his career in construction as a Site Manager for a regional construction company for whom he worked for nearly ten years. During his time with the company he gained vast of the construction industry and in particular the construction phase of projects in both the new build and refurbishment sectors.

He then moved into the Client side of construction when he became Operations Manager for a national clothing retailer with responsibility for the property services division. It was at this stage of his career that Andrew took on the role of a Building Surveyor and was responsible for the pre-planned maintenance of over 100 retail outlets across the country as well as the fitting out of new branches on a regular basis.

In 2000 Andrew moved to the role of Building Surveyor at a Local Authority to again perform the joint role of the client / surveyor and was responsible for the project management of a number of large pre-planned and reactive maintenance projects on a number of buildings including residential properties, leisure facilities including a swimming pool and offices. He gained valuable experience of working for local government and an insight into the Planning & Building Control process through direct contact with the Planning & Development Department.

His next appointment was as Senior Building Surveyor for a local NHS Trust where he was responsible for a team of surveyors carrying out capital projects on two hospitals and a number of other Primary Healthcare facilities. It was at this stage in his career that he decided to establish CBH Surveying Consultancy and after initially running the business part time alongside his position at the Trust, he left the Trust in October 2006 to concentrate on the company.
